There’s nothing more refreshing than a cold DQ Sundae on a scorching afternoon. It’s so good at penetrating the brain and hitting the right chill spots, resulting in that bittersweet brain freeze that we all love.
Dairy Queen is a chain of soft-serve ice cream and fast-food restaurants of American origin. The soft-serve method is a way of preparing ice cream by introducing air during the freezing process. This reduces the overall calorie content in the ice cream and makes it lighter.
John Fremont McCullough and his son Alex established the method in 1938 and some months later; they convinced a friend, Sherb Noble, to sell the dairy product in his ice cream store on the first day, they sold over 1600 servings within 2 hours.
Many people loved the product, so the two parties joined forces and created the brand, Dairy Queen. They opened the first store in Joliet, Illinois, in 1940.
The expansion of Dairy Queen was rapid and surprised a lot of people. In 1953, the first Canadian restaurant opened its doors in Melville, Saskatchewan and as of today, there are over 300 locations in Canada the busiest DQ store in the world can also be found within Canadian borders so it’s safe to say there are many Dairy Queen lovers in The Great White North.
Worldwide, there are over 6000 stores in 27 countries and counting.
Dairy Queen is an epic household name when it comes to sundaes, shakes, and dairy products. Customer service is wonderful and keeps attracting visitors daily. If you stop by in Canada, you should totally check out a DQ store and your satisfaction will be guaranteed.

What Happened To The Dairy Queen Stores In Texas?
As of late 2016, there were over 70 DQ stores in Texas and today, supposedly, there aren’t even up to 30 stores anymore. How did that happen?
Well, there was actually a time that Texas was the sweetheart-state of Dairy Queen, to the extent that they even had a DQ website for just TX. Although the number of stores were more than other states, (and even some countries) more locations were being opened almost every two months. A lot of people started wondering what the deal with Texas was.
Everything was going well till 2017. A Dairy Queen franchisee named Vasari LLC, filed for bankruptcy protection and closed over 20 Texas stores on November 1, 2017.
Apparently, they couldn’t afford to pay a lot of debts and they had to cease the operations of almost all the stores in Texas because that particular franchisee owned over 50% of the Texas locations.
Vasari’s explanation was that the declining oil prices during the period affected their sales and therefore made them unable to make enough money to pay off all their debts. This explanation sounds kind of odd and didn’t really add up, but they overlooked the entire story, anyway.
This cleared the whole title of Texas being the state with the most locations. Well, they enjoyed it while it lasted.
Did you know that in some Dairy Queen locations in Texas, you can get a Blizzard for free if a server forgets to serve it to you upside down. Crazy, right?
Do Dairy Queen Locations Serve Food?
Most people believe Dairy Queen stores don’t have food because it’s a dairy product company. This isn’t quite true because all their locations, even drive-thru spots, serve fast food and hot meals.
During their expansion over the years, Dairy Queen has added a couple of fast food items to their menu and they can be served physically or gotten online through their website.
There is even a DQ Grill & Chill restaurant in Markham, Canada. At this place, they serve actual meals that were made on the hot stone, and the menu is to die for. It’s a highly recommended place for anyone trying out grill spots in Canada.
Dairy Queen Grill & Chill spots cannot only be found in Canada but also in some parts of America like D’Iberville.
Dairy Queen started with a small attempt to sell a new discovery of a local family and have become grandmasters of the dairy world.
They’re really wonderful at what they do.
