Oculus Prices In Canada (2023)

How Much Does An Oculus Cost In 2022?

In 2012, the dreams (and hard work) of four young men became a reality in the big city of Irvine, California. Not only was the unveiling of Oculus VR a massive hit, but they launched a campaign which exceeded everyone’s expectations. The initial plan was to gain $250,000 but guess how much they got eventually…an unbelievable $2.4 million.

That achievement alone broke so many records – and that was just the beginning!

Palmer Luckey, one of the founders, once disclosed in a discussion forum that while creating Oculus VR, his primary goal was to come up with something that will be more effective than what was in vogue during the time and also less pricey.

Quick fact: Palmer Luckey created the first Oculus prototype in his parents’ garage at 18. Most of us were probably still practicing what to say on our first date at that age. Crazy man!

Mr. Palmer owned a lot of HMDs (Head-Mounted Display) in those days, and that’s probably why he could make one that winded up greater than all the ones he’d come across.

Virtual Reality became a popular name immediately it was discovered, and that is why tech brands who venture into VR hit it big more often than not.

The best part about VR is how you just get lost in the moment, and you don’t realize how far away you’ve drifted until your session is over.

The best part about Oculus VR, however, is the fact that you can get totally confused when you’re trying to make a purchase-decision because they have too many exceptional products. They definitely took the saying “Variety is the Spice of Life” too seriously…and we love them like that. I mean, who doesn’t like the best things of life? Not me.

So what’s up with Oculus now? Who is the owner of Oculus?

Many people still think that the original founders; Palmer Luckey, Brendan Iribe, Michael Antonov and Nate Mitchell, are still the owners of Oculus now, but it’s not so.

Facebook, Inc. acquired Oculus (which was formerly Oculus VR, LLC) in March 2014 – yup, typical Facebook move – and after concluding all formalities, they moved Oculus to Menlo Park in San Francisco where their headquarters are located.

When Mark Zuckerberg announced that he intended to acquire Oculus VR for US$2 billion, there were negative vibes from every angle. Many people who were part of the first campaign tried to kick against it and convince Oculus owners not to sell it.

Well, it obviously happened later on and it was a pretty big step for both companies. Is Oculus owned by Facebook? The answer is hell yes!

The Oculus Rift is undeniably the most popular variation of Oculus VR Headsets, and it’s amazing that it hasn’t become outdated over the years. It was the first ever Oculus consumer headset released, and it’s still standing strong.

In March 2016, the first version, Oculus Rift CV1, was unveiled, and it became a personal favorite for a lot of people almost immediately. It was made up of components that couldn’t be found in all the other existing VR headsets, like the infrared tracking system. Those components stood it out and made people crave for it so badly.

Due to the fact that Oculus Rift is older than the others, you might be wondering if it is compatible with certain devices. Worry no more, here are your answers.

Be sure to note that this solely depends on your version of Windows. In case you didn’t know already, Microsoft ended support for Windows 7 since January 14, 2020. This means if you’re still using the Windows 7 version, your PC will be prone to security breaches.

So what does this have to do with Oculus Rift compatibility?

Following the announcement of Microsoft to end Windows 7 support, Oculus also disclosed that they’ll stop supporting the Windows 7 and 8.1 versions and encouraged users to upgrade to Windows 10 in order to experience the best performance and latest standards.

This simply means that your Oculus device will work on any Windows version above 8.1 so do some upgrading if you haven’t.

Also, make sure your memory capacity has at least 8GB RAM. You can check the complete list of specs here.

Now this is the tricky part. Many people usually mix things up here, so if you don’t want to make mistakes, this is the part where you pay attention.

The only Mac Os versions that are compatible with Oculus VR devices are the recent ones. The first to support Oculus was High Sierra, the 10.13 version that was released in 2017. Before then, if someone who owns a Mac wanted to connect it with an Oculus device, they’d have to download the Windows OS software on their system and you can tell by the description how inconvenient that would be for them.

So, if you’re using any version of Mac Os above 2017 like High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina and the latest macOs 11 version which was released in November 2020: Big Sur, then you can comfortably use it with your Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest or any other Oculus device.

Therefore, question of whether Oculus is compatible with Mac, depends on the version of Mac you are using.

Nothing can compare to the thrill that using an Oculus Virtual Reality Headset provides while gaming. Their slogan really says it all: Unplug and Play For Real!
